About the journal

Private law as an argument, not only a system

Acta Juris Civilis will publish scholarship that takes private law seriously as doctrine, as an institutional achievement, and as a form of practical reason.

The journal welcomes work in the tradition of private law doctrine—persons and legal capacity, juristic acts, property, obligations, contract, tort, and the family—as well as scholarship that situates private law in its social, economic, and historical context. It will publish comparative private law, Roman law and legal history, and work that crosses disciplinary boundaries.

The journal is being developed as an independent, international forum. It is committed to careful editorial work, serious engagement with argument, and scholarship that is accessible to readers across jurisdictions and traditions.
